Our Story

The Walpole Community Food Pantry is a 100% volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing food insecurity in Walpole and surrounding communities.

Founded in 1993 as a small grassroots effort, the pantry has evolved into a sophisticated food distribution operation with its own warehouse, transportation assets and commercial refrigeration infrastructure.

Today, the pantry serves as one of the largest partners of the Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB). Among more than 600 partner agencies, we rank in the top 45 for food distribution volume and are one of only two organizations in that tier operated entirely by volunteers. This strong partnership reflects the pantry's operational capacity, reliability and impact across the region.

We receive  the majority of our food through GBFB and supplement those resources with weekly food rescue donations from local grocery partners, including Stop & Shop, Wegmans, and Costco, as well as bulk donations from other regional nonprofits. Volunteers manage the entire process, from receiving and sorting deliveries to inventory management and distribution.

Our scale and effectiveness have enabled us to build an exceptionally close relationship with GBFB, which provides direct grant funding to support our growth, and frequently advocates on our behalf when we apply for grants from other philanthropic organizations. This support helps strengthen our community impact.

Each week, we directly serve more than 300 local families while also supporting hundreds more through partnerships with other nonprofits and agencies. Beyond our role as a food pantry, we also function as a regional logistics hub. We’re a distribution site for partner agencies, a produce distribution center for GBFB, and a last-mile delivery provider for smaller organizations that lack transportation resources.

Through our volunteer-driven model, extensive partnerships and regional leadership role, the Walpole Community Food Pantry is a critical component of the hunger-relief network in southeastern Massachusetts, helping ensure that nutritious food reaches individuals and families that need it most.
